Tracksters do well in sectionals
The Jeff Davis High School track teams competed in sectionals this past Saturday in Fitzgerald and several Jackets will advance to the State Finals this week in Rome.
Thursday will be the preliminaries for the running events, Friday will be the field events, and Saturday will be the finals for the running events.
Four Jeff Davis athletes had first place finishes in the sectionals. Cedric King won the long jump, Keiana Littleton took first in the 100 meter dash, Nyjai Gillis won the 110 hurdles, and Kendriana McDuffie captured the 300 meter hurdles.
Those qualifying and their places at sectionals were:
Long Jump: Kendriana McDuffie, 5th; Cedric King, 1st.
Triple Jump: Keiana Littleton, 3rd; Fefe Green, 5th; Emmanuel Rumph, 8th.
High Jump: Tania Hall, 4th
Discus: Daneshia Wooten, 3rd; Darrel Mincey, 5th
Shot Put: Daneshia Wooten, 4th
Pole Vault: Maddie Brown, 2nd; Gracie Sellers, 4th; Alex Pena, 5th; Isaiah Robinson, 7th
100 meter dash: Keiana Littleton, 1st; Greg Chambers, 4th; Cedric King, 8th.
200 meter dash: Keiana Littleton, 2nd; Greg Chambers, 6th.
800 meter run: Joshua Ratliff, 7th.
1600 meter run: Riley Walters, 6th
3200 meter run: Hailey Beach, 6th
100 meter hurdles: Kendriana McDuffie, 2nd
110 meter hurdles: NyJai Gillis, 1st; Austin Wood, 6th.
300 meter hurdles: Kendriana McDuffie, 1st; Tia Cornish, 5th; Emmanuel Rumph, 2nd; NyJai Gillis, 3rd
4×400 meter relay: Girls Team A, 4th; Boys Team A, 5th.
