Soccer boys defeat Dodge

For the second straight year, the Jeff Davis boys soccer team won in a thrilling fashion against the Dodge County Indians last Friday.
The Yellow Jackets took on Dodge County in the first round of the Georgia High School Association State Playoffs. Jeff Davis went down early with a goal in the 8th minute to put Dodge County ahead 1-0.
Midway through the second half the Yellow Jackets found the equalizer. After an Orlando Payan free kick was blocked in the top left 90, it fell to the foot of senior Cesar Andablo. He was able to put it in the back of the net to tie the game 1-1.
At the end of regulation the match was still tied 1-1.
JD dominated the overtime period but were not able to find a goal to put the game away. Like a case of deja’ vu, the Yellow Jackets had to go to penalty kicks. JD was able to defeat Dodge County in penalty kicks in the 2018 GHSA State Playoffs to go the Elite 8. Once again the Yellow Jackets had to go to PKs.
Jeff Davis had their first two kicks blocked. The Indians were able to make their first two kicks and found themselves down 2-0 early. The Yellow Jackets found a way to get the score to 3-3 with Dodge County coming down to their final kick to win it. The kick taker missed over the goal and the match went to sudden death.
Both teams were able to make their 1st sudden death penalty kicks. Senior Jose Perez came up next for the Yellow Jackets and was able to bury the shot in the back of the net for a 5-4 lead. The Indians had to make their next kick to continue.
Sophomore Audiel Plascencia was able to block the kick and send the Yellow Jackets into the Sweet 16.
The Yellow Jackets will take on the Berrien Rebels in Nashville this Thursday at 6:00. The JD boys are trying to make consecutive trips to the Elite 8.
