Mrs. Gene Wood McDowell, 82

Mrs. Gene Wood McDowell, 82, of Hazlehurst, died April 17 at Jeff Davis Hospital.
Mrs. McDowell was born Sept. 15, 1936, in Jeff Davis County to the late Glenn Wood and the late Ola B. Williams Wood. She was a retired nurse and member of Mt Zion Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Marty Smith, son, Ricky Foskey, siblings, Doris Howell, Glenda Waters, Howell Wood, Bobby Wood, and Roy Wood.
Survivors include her husband, Harold (Mac) McDowell of Hazlehurst; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Ronnie Waters of Hazlehurst; step-daughters, Lori Washam and Glenda Knox of Hazlehurst; step-son, Darrell McDowell of Hazlehurst; sisters, Betty Deloach of Claxton, Barbara Hendrix (Ed) of Hazlehurst, Evelyn Hewett of Nebraska; brother, Jimmie Wood (Carmen) of Ray City; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held April 20 in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with the Rev. Edis Kirkland, the Rev. Ryan Clements, and the Rev. Dewitt Corbin officiating. Interment followed in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Dwain Smith, Brian Smith, Nathan Butler, Mitchel Butler, Stacey Waters, Frank Mimbs, and Danny Wood.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
