Pedestrian Struck and Killed

A 57-year-old Hazlehurst man was struck and killed by an automobile while he was walking in the roadway on a darkened South Cromartie Street.
According to a report by the Georgia State Patrol, the accident occurred March 24 as Jose Luis Guzman-Gonzalez was walking in the middle of the southbound lane. There were no street lights present and the pedestrian was improperly in the roadway and he was not wearing any reflective clothing.
The vehicle, driven by Gladys Toledo of Hazlehurst, was traveling south on South Cromartie and she could not see Guzman-Gonzalez as another vehicle was approaching her vehicle traveling north on South Cromartie.
The driver of the second vehicle said he saw the pedestrian walking south in the middle of the southbound lane. He saw the vehicle driven by Toledo traveling south and as the two cars met he heard the impact.
Ms. Toledo was not issued a citation.
