Sentences Handed Down In Court

District Attorney Jackie Johnson announced that from the Feb. 25 criminal trial calendar in Jeff Davis County, 31 cases were resolved by guilty plea or pre-trial diversion agreement. Superior Court Judge Roger B. Lane sentenced the following to serve time in prison at the recommendation of the State:
Brian Jimenez Chavez, 31, was convicted of two counts of child molestation and sentenced to 25 years in prison followed by five years on probation. As a condition of his sentence, Chavez will be required to register as a sex offender and is not allowed to have contact with any minor children.
Marion Richardson, 43, was convicted of one count of sale of cocaine and was sentenced to eight years in prison followed by 17 years on probation.
Orlando Bennett, 48, was convicted of one count of sale of cocaine and was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison.
Wayne Stone was convicted of one count of manufacturing marijuana, one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was sentenced to serve eight years in prison followed by seven years on probation.
Ronak Patel, 39, was convicted of obstruction of a law enforcement officer with violence and was sentenced to serve three years in prison followed by seven years on probation. The charges stem from an assault on a Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Deputy.
The District Attorney thanks jurors who were summoned for court for being present and available to serve. Because of juror’s service, the court was able to resolve the cases without the necessity of any trials.
