County Has Short Meeting
It took less than 15 minutes for the Jeff Davis County Commission to conduct its business last week as the group quickly ran through its agenda.
The commissioners tabled action on a suggestion by Blackburn Commissioner Hank Hobbs that the group adopt a code of conduct for the commissioners and visitors during commission meetings.
When visiting commission meeting in another county, Hobbs was given a copy of code of conduct for the meeting which explained how people should address the board and the commissioners should address them. Visitors could pick up a form when arriving at the meeting, giving their name, address and the subject they wished to address, whether it be on the agenda or is another matter.
The code’s aim is to keep the discussion pertinent, civil and non-disruptive.
When Chairman Ricky Hall asked for a motion from the commission, no one offered one. Ocmulgee Commissioner Vann Wooten and Hazlehurst Commissioner James Benjamin wanted time both asked for time to read over the document. With that, the matter was tabled.
During public comments, Rhonda Walsh asked the commissioners about the work on resurfacing Ralph Wommack Road, expressing her concerns that the road was not being repaved properly. Hall assured her that the road, when finished, would be properly paved.
In other action, the commissioners ….
…. reappointed Sandra Page and Susie Reed to the Agency on Aging.
…. approved a solid waste plan as presented.
…. approved a contract with GMASS for the Tax Assessors office.
…. authorized County Administrator Keith Carter to seek bids for two new tractors.
