It’s Baseball Time Again

The 2019 Jeff Davis High School baseball season opens Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. with a home scrimmage against Pierce County. And next Tuesday the regular season begins with a home encounter against Bleckley County, also at 6 p.m.
It will be a busy week for the Jackets, who have only one senior on the roster, outfielder/catcher Kaden Lewis. After Tuesday’s game against Bleckley, the Jackets play Appling County Thursday in Baxley, then host Jones County and Wayne County on Saturday in a round-robin event.
This year’s Region 2-AA format has a new twist as each school plays three region games against the other member schools instead of the usual home-and-home, two-game format. Each 3-game series will be played in the same week. For Jeff Davis, region games begin the first week in March, facing Metter March 4 at home, March 7 in Metter and March 8 at home.
After games against Colquitt County and Tift County, both 7A schools, on March 12 and 13, the Yellow Jackets then close out the regular season with 15 straight region games.
