Train-Truck Collision Causes Derailment
An eastbound freight train struck a semi-tractor trailer truck last Thursday on the train track’s intersection with Farmers Street. The driver of the Williams Brothers Trucking Company truck was injured in the accident. There were two men in the train engine who were shook up as the engine left the track and slid to a rest on its left side. They were both fortunate not to have been seriously injured. The truck’s contents of wood chips were spilled out onto the ground. The driver of the truck appeared to be headed toward the Baxley Highway when the train struck the rear portion of the trailer, whipping the truck cab back toward the train. The engine of the train and several cars were derailed.
