Former Judge Arrested

Former Jeff Davis County Probate Judge Arthur Buford was arrested following a shooting incident Oct. 26 at his home at 382 Burketts Ferry Road.
According to information from the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Department, three deputies responded to the residence answering a report that a male subject had a gun and shots had been fired involving a vehicle repossession.
Buford and wrecker driver Christopher Alan Shelton were interviewed at the scene. A 9 mm pistol was taken from Buford and a 40 cal. pistol was secured from the wrecker Shelton was driving.
Buford was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckless conduct. No charges were filed against Shelton. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.
