Cross Country Teams Are Region Champions
The Jeff Davis cross country teams both win region titles last week as they hosted the region championship meet for the third straight year.
The Yellow Jacket boys blew by the competition to win their first ever Region Title. The boys team was led by senior Hector Huerta who finished 2nd overall. The rest of the boys squad was close behind as all seven of the Yellow Jacket runners finished in the Top 16. The boys team was the only team to have a team average in the 18:00 range with an average of 18:20. The next closest team was Vidalia with an average of 19:04.
The Yellow Jacket ladies went 1,2,3 (Zoie Marchant, Riley Walters, Chaina Cruz) and all seven runners finish in the top 13. Freshmen Zoie Marchant was the third straight Lady Jacket to capture the individual region title (Riley Walters, 2016 and Brenda Franco, 2017) and the team captured its third straight team title. The girls had a 22:18 team average, almost a full minute better than second place St. Vincent’s Academy.
The top four region teams from each gender qualified for the GHSA State Meet Nov. 3 in Carrollton. The boys will race at 9:30 a.m. followed by the girls at 10:15.
