Lopez Is A Certified City Clerk
Vernice Thompson Lopez, who serves as city clerk for the City of Hazlehurst, has just earned all the continuing education requirements for the designation of Certified City Clerk.
The Georgia Clerks Education Institute (GCEI) certificate program for city and county clerks is administered by the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
Lopez finished the requirements for the certification at the GCEI conference held at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education Sept. 9-11.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Mayor Bayne Stone and the entire city council for allowing me to serve as city clerk,” she said of earning the designation. “I appreciate the opportunity to serve the citizens of Hazlehurst.”
The GCEI certificate program is designed to establish minimum standards and professional goals for city and county clerks. The program is jointly sponsored by the Georgia County Clerks Association (GCCA) and the Georgia Municipal Clerks and Finance Officers Association (GMC/FOA).
“While I am continuing to learn certain areas of city government, I will continue to educate myself in the position of city clerk,” Lopez said. “I am deeply grateful for the trust and confidence each individual has in me as I serve as city clerk.”
