Roundabout Work Underway

While there appears to be no work being done on the two roundabouts on Pat Dixon Road near the county’s schools, there are a number of behind-the-scenes activities underway.
The pre-construction meeting has already been conducted by Hofstadter and Associates engineering firm with contractors and subcontractors. And a drive-by at the Collins Street site Monday afternoon found a broadband worker marking utilities in the area to alert workers of their presence.
The construction of the two projects, at Pat Dixon Road’s intersections with Collins Street and Charles Rogers Boulevard, is expected to take the entire summer with the completion target date being before schools open for the 2018-2019 school year.
The roundabouts were recommended by a 2016 Georgia Department of Transportation Safe Routes To Schools Study. After a year and a half of consideration, the Hazlehurst City Council approved moving forward with the project in December, 2017, with support from the Jeff Davis County Commission and Jeff Davis County School Officials.
