Hazel Tanner Deason in concert at Hillcrest
Hazel Tanner Deason will be in concert May 12 at 7 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Hazel began singing at age seven. She traveled, sang and spoke throughout the southeast and sang as a regular on KYFC-TV 50 “Something Beautiful” program. She was a member of college choirs, a church trio and was a soloist. Hazel graduated from Jeff Davis High School in 1965, earned her BA at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a major in communication studies and a minor in music, and earned her MA in English Literature and pedagogy.
Hazel worked at Thomas Nelson Publishers, Nashville, Tenn., Kansas City Youth For Christ TV Department, Shawnee Mission, Kan., and taught college English at UAB and Greenville Technical College.
Hazel is a member of Christ Church Choir which has recorded albums and traveled internationally. She is proficient in French and is studying Spanish. Hazel has gone on mission trips and plans to travel July and October in Costa Rica and Italy. She is raising money for the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica missions and aims to travel to Haiti and France in 2019 and Japan in 2020.
