  • Democratic Committee Meeting

    On Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. the Jeff Davis County Democratic Committee will have a meeting at Papa’s Cabin.
    All Jeff Davis County residents who are registered to vote and believe in the principles of the Democratic Party are urged to attend.

  • JD Wellness Day

    The Hazlehurst-Jeff Davis Chamber of Commerce and Jeff Davis Hospital will host JD Wellness Day this Saturday, Oct. 3, at The Big House from 7:30 a.m. until noon.
    Vendors will be setup with giveaways and information on health and wellness. Jeff Davis Hospital will offer a discounted rate on biometric exams. For those interested in participating in the exam, fast after midnight Friday night.
    Registration for the Pink Out 5K/10K Walk/Run will begin at 7 a.m. with the run kicking off at 8:30. Those interested in participating can register onsite and there is a fee.  Runners will receive a free t-shirt.
    Other demonstrations include different types of exercise including Zumba and yoga and healthy cooking demonstrations.
    Jeff Davis High School Yellow Jacket Band will perform at 11:30 a.m. in their first performance of the year in Hazlehurst.

  • Last Day To Register To Vote In Nov. 3 Election

    Jeff Davis County Elections Supervisor Christy Riner this week reminded voters that the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 3 General Election is Monday, Oct. 5.
    She also announced the in-person advance voting dates which begin Oct. 12 and run Monday through Friday through Oct. 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the courthouse. Additionally, one Saturday early voting will be held Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Tax Assessors Meeting

  • Hinson Mosley Book Signing

    Former State Representative Hinson Mosley of Jesup will hold a book-signing Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at Jaycee Stadium in Jesup.
    “God Knew – The Authorized Biography of the Honorable Hinson Mosley, Georgia House of Representatives” was authored by Joy Waters Fowler with Hinson and Linda Mosley. The book was released Tuesday.
    Mosley never should have lived to see his first birthday. The poor, Depression-era baby learned how to fight injustice in the cotton and tobacco patches of Southeast Georgia and grew up to be a war veteran and an influential lawmaker who served under three Georgia Governors.
    Eighty-eight years later, Rep. Mosley is telling his life story through his authorized biography. He leaves no secrets untold and names names — exposing pockets of corruption in politics and sharing his personal testimony of hope for those struggling with their own sense of worth.

  • Chamber Annual Event

    The Hazlehurst-Jeff Davis Chamber of Commerce is planning to host their 2020 Annual Event with A Night in Vegas theme. The event was postponed from earlier in the year.
    It will be held at the Jeff Davis Fairgrounds Oct. 24 at 6 p.m.
    The event will feature casino games, live music, jackpot prize, steak and seafood buffet and annual awards.
    Tickets are on sale for the event for $50 each at the Chamber office. Sponsorships and reserved tables are also available. Call 912-375-4543 for more information.
