    The Hazlehurst-Jeff Davis Chamber of Commerce and Jeff Davis Farm Bureau will host a political forum Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. at the Hazlehurst Civic Center & Golf Course. The forum will feature candidates for the upcoming election for City of Hazlehurst Mayor and City Council.
    Candidates will have the ability to introduce themselves, tell why they are running for office, why they are qualified to be an elected official in the City of Hazlehurst and will then be asked a series of questions and will each have two minutes to respond.
    “The Chamber encourages voters to get to know the candidates running for election in order to be more educated before going to the polls,” said Sonya Miller, Chamber President. “It’s important to know where the candidates stand on issues that affect our City.”
    The public is invited. There is no charge for admission.

    Coach Callway has written a book, “A Rich Poor Man,” about his many years of serving with the Lyons Recreation Department and what it took to have the Anson Callway Complex at Partin Park in Lyons completed. If you have ever been over to Partin Park you know what a great facility that has served their community and numerous baseball players and families from all over the area.
    Coach Callaway’s motto is a great one, “Dream Big, Work Hard, and Good Things Will Happen.” That applies to everything, whether in sports or everyday life.
    Coach Callaway said, “When I was twelve years old, I told my daddy what I wanted to do in life; it was to play ball. For sixty years, I did that. Thanks to all the people who were a big part of this journey. Thanks for believing in me. It was a lot of fun!”

    The Heart of Georgia Altamaha Area Agency on Aging is hosting a “Dementia Friends” information session Oct. 30 and is looking for local people to join in learning about dementia and helping people who are living with it in our community.
    Dementia Friends is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way we think, talk and act about the disease. The Dementia Friends session helps you learn about dementia and the small ways you can help.
    The one hour session will be at Toombs County Community Center, 107 Old Airport Road, Vidalia from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
    Having volunteered to be a Dementia Friends Champion, Lisa Livingston and Lisa Wolfson are now delivering Dementia Friends Sessions to people across the Heart of Georgia Altamaha Area Agency on Aging’s 17 county region. They became involved in the Dementia Friends project as a way to increase community awareness of the needs to persons living with dementia.
