Snipesville New Year's Day Parade
The Snipesville Community will host it’s annual New Year’s celebration Jan. 1 with a parade and traditional lunch menu.
The meal will consist of barbecue pork or grilled chicken, black-eyed peas, yams, rolls, and cake. Plate prices are $7. There will be take out or dining in at the center with lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m.
The parade begins at 2 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate in the parade. There is no entry fee. The parade is in need of antique cars, floats, horses, twirlers, or any other entries. There will be a cake raffle and vendors.

Forever Young
Forever Young, the senior adult group of Hazlehurst First United Methodist Church, meets the first Thursday of each month at 5:30.
In January they will travel to McRae’s Cedar Lane Supper Club.

Winter Classic Baseball Clinic, Douglas
Coffee County High School Dugout Club will host the 2019 Winter Baseball Clinic Jan. 12 at Charles Wilson Field in Douglas.
Instructors include Frank Moore, hitting instructor for the Miami Marlins organization; Keegan McGovern, former All-SEC player with Georgia and a 9th round pick of the Seattle Mariners; Austin Cox, 5th round pick of the Kansas City Royals; and the Coffee High coaching staff.
Cost is $50 per player. Sessions for ages 6-12 will be in the morning and sessions for ages 13-18 will be in the afternoon.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
Hazlehurst Community League will hold the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Saturday, Jan. 12, beginning at 10 a.m., in the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Social Center.
The Freedom March Parade will be at 10 and the Commemorative Holiday Program will be at the Jeff Davis Youth Center at 11.
Churches, businesses, civic and social organizations are invited to participate with a celebration float/car or group march to commemorate the national holiday. Floats are requested to be at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church by 8 a.m.

Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library will have author Jane H. Walker for a book signing at their meeting Thursday, Jan. 17, at the library on Baxley Hwy. The business session will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the program starting at 7.
Ms. Walker, a resident of McRae-Helena, had her latest book, Can We Fathom the Nature of God? (and America’s Exceptionalism), released in November 2018. Walker asked the question, “Has anyone ever considered that God made American powerful and exceptional, so it could protect His chosen people, Israel? She then pursues the thought not only with her own ideas but with the excellent writings of great thinkers throughout the ages.
The first part of the book is devoted to scriptural references to the nature of God, while the last section of the book described God’s hand in the formation and exceptionalism of the United States.

Rentz Family Reunion
