Jeff Davis Elementary School is planning a Winter Wonderland – a fun afternoon of Christmas activities for the family Dec. 1, 3:30-5 p.m. at Jeff Davis Elementary School Lunchroom. Activities are free and inexpensive concessions will be available.
Activities will include making ornaments, Christmas cards, decorating a gingerbread man, photo booth, and much more.

The Jeff Davis High School Wrestling Team will host one of the largest dual tournaments in the state this weekend, Dec. 1-2, utilizing the school’s new facility, along with the high school and middle school gyms.
The 11th Annual Yellow Jacket Duals will be made up of 24 varsity teams competing on 10 wrestling mats — six in the high school gym and four in the new auxiliary gym. Wrestling will start Friday at 4 p.m. and again Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
With 24 teams, the 2017 Yellow Jacket Duals is the biggest tournament in program history with approximately 400 wrestlers competing. Over the span of two days 108 dual meets will occur, with each team competing in nine matches.
Saturday, the 3rd Annual JV Stinger Slam will be held on three mats in the middle school gym. The JV tournament will start at 9:30 a.m.
Spectators will be able to purchase a one-day wrist band to go in and out of the gyms with their teams, or a two-day wrist band good for both days.
“We are excited to be able to host again this year,” said Wrestling Coach Chris Davis, “and very thankful for the support of everyone that helps throughout the weekend.”

Concerted Services Inc. and Jeff Davis Senior Citizens Center are teaming up to have a Silent Auction Dec. 4-15 to raise funds for the Center. The whole community is invited to come and participate in showing their support for Jeff Davis Seniors. The hours for the auction will be 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
The auction will close at noon on Dec. 15 so that the Center can contact the winning bidders of their items. Some of the items up for auction are: Paula Deen cookware, automotive items, homemade pillows, aprons, afghans, household items, home decor, fishing, jewelry, and much, much more. There will also be a drawing for a Merle Norman and Walmart gift cards. There is something for everyone.

Woodland, built by prominent businessman and legislator Walter T. McArthur in the late 1870s, will be featured on the Wheeler County Chamber of Commerce Heritage Tour Saturday, Dec. 9, 1-5 p.m. Tickets are on sale. Proceeds benefit the Longleaf Legacy Museum & Interpretive Center in Alamo, now in development.

The children of A.C. and Lois Merritt will hold a reception in their honor for their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Dec. 9, from 2-4 p.m. at Hazlehurst Church of God.
Family and friends of the couple are invited to attend.

There are many children in the community whose lives are adversely affected by unfortunate circumstances including dysfunctional families and poor economic conditions. The children are not to blame for the circumstances they are in.
David and Gail Miller of Because He Lives Ministries have a burden to help the children. They will host the annual Children’s Christmas Celebration program Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. and 3:30 pm. The children of the community are invited to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas with carols and the presentation of the Christmas story from the Bible.
Parents must register their children at the Mission Store for the event. And parents are required to attend the event with the children. Registration has begun.
Volunteers are needed to help with refreshments and passing out the gifts and candy bags. Also, monetary contributions are needed. Contact David or Gail Miller if you have concerns or questions.

Again this year the combined choirs and orchestras of Douglas FUMC and Hazlehurst FUMC will present a Christmas concert.

The cantata will be performed at Hazlehurst FUMC on December 10 at 6 pm and in Douglas on December 17 at 6.

Oakland Baptist Church will have in concert Dixie Echoes Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. A love offering will be taken for the group.

Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office will sponsor a Church Security Training Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. ]at Hillcrest Baptist Church located at 50 Dr. Turfler Rd. The training will be only for church pastors, ordained leaders and active law enforcement officers.
The training will provide two hours POST credit to law enforcement officers and will educate church leaders on the laws and liabilities of church security issues.
Tickets for the training will be required to attend and are available at Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office.

The Jeff Davis High School Band invites the community to their annual Christmas Concert, “The Sounds of Christmas,” Thursday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
Listen to some favorite yuletide pieces, and sing along with the band as they close with their traditional “Christmas Sing-a-long.”

There will be a revival at Love Temple 1 House of Prayer by Faith, Inc. of Lumber City Dec. 14-15 at 7:30 p.m. The speaker will be Pastor Wilson of Fitzgerald.
Overseer and Pastor Estella Love welcomes everyone to attend.

A free class on childbirth is offered at Wayne Memorial Hospital Dec. 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria conference room. The class is ideal for expectant mothers 25 weeks pregnant or later by the class date. Those interested in registering may do so by calling (912) 530-3118.
Topics of the class will include the normal process of pregnancy, labor and delivery with an emphasis on conscious prepared childbirth. Stress is placed on a medically safe delivery in the hospital under the direction of a physician. Additional topics covered are infant care and infant feeding. Attendees are encouraged to invite a support person to the class.
