Friends of the Library meeting
https://www.jdledger.com/event/friends-of-the-library-meeting/Hazlehurst Friends of the Library invite the community to the Hazlehurst library on Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. for a presentation and book signing by Georgia author, Dr. Karen Lord Rutter. She will share pictures and excerpts from her book, “Northbounders, 2,186 Miles of Friendship.” The book has received rave reviews from readers who range from 8 years of age to 93.
Evan Johnston of Hazlehurst, 10, said, “I read the book and it was awesome!! I’ve read it TWO TIMES because it’s so awesome!” Lee, 67, from Florida had the same reaction: “This story would make a great movie! I enjoyed the book from the first page. It is a really neat twist to read it from the dog’s perspective. Knowing it is a true story made it even better.”
Although Rutter wrote the book with young adults in mind, it was quickly adopted by adult and senior readers for its relatable themes and dynamic narrative. The story is based on Rutter’s son’s thru-hike from Georgia to Maine on the Appalachian Trail with the family dog, Copper. Witnessing their close bond as they overcame challenge after challenge inspired Rutter to put pen to paper documenting a remarkable journey and a remarkable friendship. Pulling from her own experiences of her childhood in Dublin, Rutter brings new perspective to the little things we don’t stop to appreciate as often as we should. Life’s little comedies, the earth’s provision, the blessing of friendship, and the freedom of adventure are recurring themes in the book.
The author will have books available for signing. - 2020.October.Friday
