Lady Jackets have mixed results

Two years ago, twins Jaqueline and Jasmine Villasenor played softball for Jeff Davis High School as sophomores. They moved away as juniors last year. Last week, as seniors at Bacon County they took the field against their former Lady Jacket teammates with Jaqueline on the mound and Jazmine behind the plate. With two outs in the 7th inning, Jaqueline had retired 20 batters in a row and had a strike on JD shortstop Savanna Robinette. Robinette hit a line drive into left field on the next pitch to spoil Villasenor’s bid for a perfect game.
But the Lady Raiders prevailed to win 2-0.
Bacon County got single runs in the 1st and 2nd innings and made it hold up for the win. Robinette was the only baserunner for JD in the game.
Anna Grace Alligood was the losing pitcher. She gave up 2 runs on 7 hits, walked 5 and struck out 6.
Thursday in Hazlehurst, the Lady Jackets dropped their second straight region game as Thomasville High took a 6-4 win.
Jeff Davis trailed 6-1 after 3 1/2 innings and cut the final deficit to 2 runs but couldn’t catch the Lady Bulldogs.
Jeff Davis scored first in the bottom of the 1st as Ava Bohannon walked and Madison Joyce followed with a sacrifice bunt. A throwing error by Thomasville’s first baseman allowed Bohannon to score all the way from first.
In the 4th, Briley Reagin drove in a run with a double, Gabby Taylor followed with a run-scoring single and the score was 6-3. In the bottom of the 6th, Reagin, Taylor and Bohannon got singles for the Lady Jackets’ final run.
Alligood had a double and 2 singles. Reagan had a single, a double and an RBI, Taylor had 2 singles and an RBI, Bohannon had a single and an RBI, and Joyce and Robinette both singled.
Alligood took the loss on the mound. She gave up 5 earned runs on 11 hits, walked one and fanned 11.
Saturday in Cordele, Jeff Davis took a 12-2, 5-inning win over Centennial High School of Atlanta.
The Lady Jackets had 16 hits, topped by Reagin who was 4-for-4 with 3 singles, a triple and 3 RBI. Robinette had a double, a home run and 4 RBI. Alligood had a single, a double and 3 RBI, Kenley Pearson had 2 singles and an RBI, Taylor and Joyce singled twice, Bohannon singled and drove in a run, and Abby Williams singled.
