Students recognized for test scores
At last week’s meeting of the Jeff Davis County Board of Education, High School Principal Dr. Greer Smith recognized two students for their outstanding scores on the Advanced Placement Precalculus and Calculus exams.
Kenneth Grate – scored a 4 on the AP Precalculus exam
Director of Student Services Dr. Garrett White presented an update that included data from the 2025-2026 Georgia Milestone scores. Jeff Davis County students outperformed the state average on 11 out of 12 assessments of Developing Learners and equaled or outperformed the state average on 10 out of 12 assessments of Proficient Learners.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Adam Kirby gave an update on the new primary school. He reported that the school is essentially complete, with only a few minor finishing touches remaining. Parrish Construction remains on-site to oversee any remaining items or address any concerns identified by staff.
Dr. Kirby also gave an update on traffic flows and a change implemented last week for the primary school.
The following items were unanimously approved:
• Out of State Travel Request – Band Director.
• Out of State Travel Request – Choices Director.
• Facility Use Request – Class of 2006/Daniel McNeal.
• Facility Use Request – Chamber of Commerce.
• Board Policy Updates – These policies sat open for public comment since the July 13, 2026, board meeting. No public comments were given: Employee Leave and Absences; Promotion and Retention; Equal Educational Opportunities; School Admissions.
Chief Financial Officer Joshua Worth presented the June 2026 financial reports. The board approved the reports as presented.
