Softball wins 2; 2 rained out

Jeff Davis High’s softball team won a pair of games last week, defeating Emanuel County taking a 9-7 win over Greenbrier of Augusta Saturday in Vidalia.
A Monday game against Effingham County in Springfield was rained out. The makeup game is scheduled for Oct. 8. The Lady Jackets also played West Laurens Saturday in Vidalia but the game was halted because of rain in the 7th inning with the score tied 6-6. The game will be resumed Aug. 28 at West Laurens.
In the ECI game, the Lady Bulldogs struck first with a run in the top of the 1st inning. The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the 6th when the Lady Jackets put 3 runs on the board.
The JD bats were silent most of the 1st 5 innings as Ava Bohannon’s single was the only Jeff Davis hit.
In the 6th, Bohannon opened the inning with a triple and scored an out later on a Madison Joyce single. Savanna Robinette followed with a double to push Joyce across the plate to give JD a 2-1 lead. Anna Grace Alligood pushed Robinette to 3rd with a single and Robinette scored on a passed ball, making it 3-1.
In the final inning, the Lady Bulldogs used a walk and 3 singles to make it 3-2 with 1 out and the bases loaded. But Alligood, pitching in relief of starter Briley Reagin, got the next batter to fly out to short center and struck out the next batter.
Bohannon had a single and a triple to lead the offense. Robinette had a double and an RBI, Joyce had a single and an RBI, and Alligood singled.
Reagin pitched 5 innings, giving up one run on 2 hits, walking one and striking out none. Alligood threw the last 2 innings, giving up one run on 3 hits, walking 2 and striking out 2.
Playing in sweltering heat Saturday in Vidalia, the Jeff Davis-Greenbrier game was close from start to finish. The Lady Jackets moved out in front for good in the 4th as they scored 2 runs to break a 4-all tie. Greenbrier got back to within a run in the 6th, scoring 2 to make it 8-7 and Jeff Davis added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning.
Jeff Davis scored a run in the 1st as Joyce was hit by a pitch and Robinette and Alligood followed with singles.
Trailing 4-1 in the 3rd, Joyce, Robinette, Alligood and Reagin got consecutive singles to make it 4-2. Skyler Chaney tied the game with a 2-run single.
In the 4th, Bohannon singled, Robinette walked and Alligood singled to load the bases with 2 outs. Reagin followed with a 2-run single to put Jeff Davis on top for good at 6-4.
The Lady Jackets pushed their lead to 8-5 in the 5th. Mattie Walsh, Abby Williams and Bohannon singled for one run and Joyce plated a run on a ground out.
The Lady Jackets’ final run came in the 6th as Mikelynn Jones. Chaney and Walsh got consecutive singles.
The Lady Jackets had the hot bats, out-hitting Greenbrier 18-9. All the hits were singles. Walsh and Alligood both had 3 hits and an RBI, Reagin had 2 singles and 3 RBI, Chaney had 2 singles and 2 RBI, Bohannon singled twice and drove in a run, Robinette and Jones both had 2 singles, Joyce singled and drove in a run and Williams singled.
Alligood went the distance on the mound, giving up 6 earned runs on 9 hits, walking 3 and fanning 8.
When the game against West Laurens was halted, Jeff Davis had out-hit West Laurens 9-5.
Bohannon had a single, a double and an RBI, Robinette had 2 singles and an RBI, Williams singled twice, Reagin had a single and an RBI, Joyce and Kenley Pearson both had a single, and Alligood drove in a run.
Reagin started on the mound and went 2 2/3 innings. She gave up 5 runs on 3 hits, 4 walks, a hit batter and a strikeout. Alligood pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits, no walks and 4 strikeouts.
