Softball play opens

Jeff Davis High opened the 2026 softball season last Wednesday with a 16-1 drubbing of Wilcox County in Rochelle. But Monday in East Dublin, the Lady Jackets fell to East Laurens 4-2.
The Lady Jackets of Coach Brooke Taylor needed only 3 hits in the opener to get their 16 runs as three Wilcox pitchers gave up 16 walks in the 4-inning contest.
After two scoreless innings, the Lady Jackets erupted for 9 runs in the 3rd inning without the benefit of a hit. Fifteen Lady Jackets went to the plate in the inning. Eight of them reached base on walks and four on errors.
JD made it 16-0 with a 7-run 4th inning. Gabby Taylor started the inning with a single. Six walks and 2 errors later, Abby Williams got the 2nd single of the inning, driving in a run to make it 16-0.
The Lady Patriots got on the board in the bottom of the 4th with a lead-off homer but that was all the scoring they could muster.
Gabby Taylor, Abby Williams and Madison Joyce got the Lady Jackets’ three hits, all singles. Taylor drove in 3 runs, Anna Grace Alligood had 2 RBI, and Ava Bohannon, Mikelynn Jones, Williams and Matty Walsh had one RBI apiece.
Alligood went the distance on the mound, giving up one run on 3 hits, walking 2 and fanning 5.
In Monday’s game, Alligood was breezing along with a 1-hit shutout and a 2-0 lead through 4 innings, and had retired 12 of the 13 batters she had faced.
With one out in the 5th, Alligood yielded her first walk of the game. The runner stole 2nd and scored on a single. That runner also stole second and an error enabled her to come all the way to home to score the tying run.
In the 6th, the Lady Falcons struck for 2 more runs, thanks to Lady Jacket errors.
Jeff Davis opened the game with a 2-run first inning as Ava Bohannon and Savanna Robinette walked and, with 2 outs, Briley Reagin ripped a 2-run single to right.The Lady Jackets out-hit the Lady Falcons 9-3, led by Williams who was 3-for-3 with a trio of singles. Reagin had a single and 2 RBI, Madison Joyce and Alligood both doubled, and Robinette, Mikelynn Jones and Gabby Taylor each singled.
Alligood gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits, walked 2 and fanned 9.
