Business of the Quarter

Today we are happy to celebrate Jeff Davis Ledger as the business of the quarter. The Ledger is part of a lineage of newspapers that has served as our community’s go-to place for news for over 100 years. Though the name has changed over the years, the paper has continued to be the institution that we all know and love.
What started as the Hazlehurst News in the early 1900’s became the Georgia Cracker and then the Jeff Davis County Ledger. In 1983, the name was shortened to the Jeff Davis Ledger. On July 1, 1973, Tommy Purser (a native of Glynn County) took over the helm of the Jeff Davis County Ledger as a 25-year-old newspaper editor. Since that time, he, along with his wife Kay and now daughter Anna, have continued to produce a high-quality weekly paper. Their work reports news about upcoming community events, informs residents about our local government, and covers our local sports teams. As the legal organ of the county, the Ledger also includes legal notices to help keep the public informed.
The Jeff Davis Ledger was nominated for the award by Terry Stone. Business of the Quarter recipients are selected by an independent panel of individuals who do not reside in Jeff Davis County, and anyone may submit a nomination.
The Business of the Quarter program is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Renasant Bank. We thank Sharon Brown and Mandy Powell for their continued investment in our local business community.
