Mrs. Helen Wilson Hill, 90

Mrs. Helen Wilson Hill, 90, transitioned peacefully June 26 surrounded by her loving daughter, Kathryn and her caring granddaughter, Takilya, at Jeff Davis Hospital.
Mrs. Hill was born April 22, 1936, in Hazlehurst to Joe and Mabel Ware Wilson.
The youngest of eight children, Ms. Hill planted deep roots in her community. At an early age, she joined Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She served devotedly on the Junior Usher Board, Senior Choir, Deaconess Board and as Mother of the Church. During her husband’s tenure as interim Pastor, Ms. Hill served as First Lady, always in her appointed place at the appointed time.
Ms. Hills was employed at Ero Industries, Alco Industries, and as housekeeper for various families.
Ms. Hill was a strong community worker. She devoted her time as a member of Community League, and Happy Land Day Care Center Building.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Mabel Ware Wilson; husband Lafayette Hill; children Purcell Hill, Michael Hill, Arrinzie Wilcox, Harvey Williams, Tara Hill and Donna Hill Williams; and siblings William, Inez and Iretha Sanders, Pearlie Livingston, Preston Wilson and Herman Wilson.
Survivors include her children Kelvin Hill of Hazlehurst, Kathryn Hill (Franklin) Moses of Warner Robins and Beverly Henry Brown of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter whom she raised as her own, Takilya Spantese (Reshadd) Stewart of Lithonia; grandchildren on whom she doted TiLei Sharee (Andy) Odum of Hermitage, Tenn., Lanier Hill of Uvalda, Brandon Hill of Norfolk, Va., Ronald (LaRonica) Williams of Rockwall, Texas, Brandon Williams of Dallas, Texas, Keila Henry-Brown of Portland, Ore., Travis (Mary) Williams of North Carolina, Sheila Orage of South Carolina, Melody Hansley of Virginia, Taylor Hill of Tennessee, and Gary (Tina) Kemp of Hazlehurst; several great-grandchildren; sister Betty Lewis of Baxley; brothers-in-law Minister John (Mary) Hill of Atlanta and Dr. Glenwood (Betty) Hill of Fort Valley; sisters-in-law Martha Wilson of Columbia, S.C., and Katherine Phyllis Hill of Valdosta; aunt Ada Griffin of Oviedo, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; her church family, neighbors, and friends.
Services were held July 5 at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Pastor Neal Dixon officiating. Interment followed in Hill Memorial Garden, Hazlehurst.
Active pallbearers were nephews.
Honorary pallbearers ministers and deacons.
Thornton’s Funeral Home was in charge.
