Mr. William Thomas ‘Tom’ Oliver, 87

Mr. William Thomas “Tom” Oliver, 87, of Hazlehurst passed away July 7 at Appling Healthcare.
Mr. Oliver, born April 29, 1939, in McRae, was the beloved son of the late Preston Oliver and Eva Mae Bass Oliver. A devoted member of First Baptist Church, he spent his career as a bread route driver with Derst Baking, where he was known for his hard work and friendly spirit.
He found joy in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden, and he was a proud supporter of Jeff Davis baseball. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, creating memories that will be held close forever.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers Dennis Oliver and Larry Oliver.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years Sara Jane Oliver of Hazlehurst; daughters Sharon Rene (Gary) Brown and Sheila Lynn (Tim) Cook, both of Hazlehurst; brother John Oliver of Claxton; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 11 at Hazlehurst First Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad Waters and Kolby Brown officiating. Interment followed in Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Brent Merrit, Brandon Merrit, Mark Oliver, Will Oliver, Rod Oliver and Gary Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Davis High School Class of 1957.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions made to Hazlehurst First Baptist Church, 30 N. Tallahassee St, Hazlehurst, Georgia, 31539.
Swain Funeral Home was in charge.
