High winds expected
The Jeff Davis County Emergency Management Agency this week issued a warning about a prolonged onshore wind event which strengthen Tuesday morning, with strong and gusty winds persisting through at least Thursday night and peaking on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service’s Jacksonville, Fla., office predicted waves of rain across the area, with heavier showers focusing along the coastal areas of Northeast Florida. Drier air residing across portions of inland southeast Georgia will combine with gusty winds and lead to Red Flag (High Wildfire Danger) conditions.
Strong coastal winds with gusts up to 35 mph inland.
The combination of breezy winds, low humidity and drought-stricken fuels may lead to extreme fire behavior and rapid spread.
A Red Flag Warning was issued for portions of Southeast Georgia Tuesday afternoon and evening. The local burn ban continues in Jeff Davis County and Hazlehurst.
