Tennis faces Pierce, Statesboro

Jeff Davis High School varsity tennis hit the road March 24, traveling to Pierce County to take on the Bears. Despite battling hard in every set, both the Yellow Jacket boys and girls came up short, with the boys falling 1–4 and the girls dropping a narrow 2–3 decision.
The Jackets returned home on March 26 to face Statesboro High. The results mirrored Tuesday’s outing, as the boys fell 1–4 and the Lady Jackets were edged out once again in a tough 2–3 match. Many of the contests came down to crucial points, but the Jackets couldn’t quite convert when it mattered most.
Following the back-to-back losses, Coach Mary Katherine Brown reflected on the team’s performance:
“We just aren’t playing our best tennis right now, but we are going to kick it up a notch in the coming days. We build this schedule and face strong competition to challenge our athletes. I believe in these kids and what they can do. Some losses are learning moments, and I hope these matches light a fire for them to push even harder in the coming weeks.”
The Yellow Jackets answered in a big way on March 27, bouncing back with dominant performances against Glynn Academy and Frederica Academy. The Lady Jackets swept Glynn Academy 5–0, while the boys secured a strong 4–1 victory. Against Frederica Academy, the Lady Jackets continued their winning form with a 4–0 win, and the boys delivered a clean 5–0 sweep — showing resilience, focus and the ability to reset after a tough stretch.
The Yellow Jackets looked to keep the momentum rolling this week as they hosted Senior Night March 31, against West Laurens.
