A season to remember

The 2026 Jeff Davis Middle School Track and Field teams had a season to remember, with multiple school records falling and athletes setting new standards for excellence.
Girls Team Highlights
The girls team was led by standout performances across multiple events. Brandy Castro set a new school record in the 800 meters, running an impressive 2:38.42 to break the previous mark of 2:41.13 set by Zoey Girtman. Zoey Carswell tied the school record in the high jump at 4 feet, 6 inches, matching the previous record held by Morgan Carelock and Tressa Brantley.
The 4 x 800 meter relay team, consisting of Brenlee Boatright, Cadence Ellis, Dakota Mincey and Brandy Castro, dominated the event all season, lowering the school record multiple times and finishing with a new mark of 10:49.18, well under the previous 11:34.09. This relay team will represent JDMS at the Georgia Middle School State Championship in April.
Boys Team Highlights
The boys team also had an exceptional season breaking four school records. Sharrod Fisher set a new long jump record at 18 feet, 7 inches, surpassing the previous record of 18 feet, 4 inches held by Zion King. In the discus, Mehki Conaway set a massive new record at 128 feet, 3 inches, eclipsing the previous mark of 116 feet, 7.5 inches and now holding the top three throws in program history.
Erick Rubio broke the 1600-meter record with a time of 5:16.50, narrowly besting Angel Pineda’s previous record of 5:19.60. Cameron Vann had a historic performance in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking 14.36 seconds to shatter the former record of 15.66 seconds held by Messiah Swinson. Vann now holds the top three times in JDMS history in this event.
This record-breaking season reflects the dedication, hard work and talent of the JDMS athletes and coaching staff. With several athletes headed to state competitions, the future of Jeff Davis Track & Field looks very bright.
