Former Clerk Eula Mae Edwards dies at 84

For over four decades, Eula Mae Edwards was the face of the Jeff Davis County Courthouse.
She began her long career at the courthouse when still a teenager and retired 44 years later as one of the most popular elected officials in the history of Jeff Davis County.
She served for many years as Clerk of the Jeff Davis County Board of Commissioners and was later elected Clerk of Superior Court where she served for 24 years before retiring and spending the remainder of her life at home with her husband of 64 years James L. “PeeWee” Edwards.
She died at her home last Friday under the care of Coastal Hospice at the age of 84.
Born Aug. 4, 1941, Eula Mae had way of making everyone who knew her feel special. Her warm, constant smile and infectious laughter brightened every room she entered. She leaves behind her legacy of a generous heart, kind spirit, warmth and abounding love.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Stacey (Rhonda) Edwards of Hazlehurst; sister Bonnie Nix of Hazlehurst; grandchildren Cody (Sophia) Edwards and Cade (Jordan) Edwards.
Services were held Monday in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Yawn and the Rev. Royce Hulett officiating.
Music was provided by her longtime friend and fellow Clerk of Court, Floyd Hunter of Appling County.
Interment followed in the cemetery of Oak View Baptist Church where she was a member.
