Mrs. Genella Hewett Baxley, 88

Mrs. Genella Hewett Baxley, 88, born Sept. 2, 1937, passed away peacefully at Appling County Pavilion, under the care of Comfort Care Hospice, after an extended illness.
She was a native and long-time resident of Jeff Davis County. Genella was a retired seamstress, a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Hazlehurst. She loved sewing, crocheting, her flowers and fishing.
She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Liza Murray Hewett; sister Margaret Brewer; and brothers Lawrence and Virgil Hewett.
Survivors include her daughters Linda Baxley, Freda Baxley, Tonileia Owens (Ken) and Joy Fussell; sons Terry Baxley (Tammy) and Joe Alfred Baxley; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private family funeral was held Jan. 30 in the chapel of Nobles Funeral Home with Brother Brannen Pate officiating.
Active pallbearers were Ashton Baxley, Ken Owens, Jonathan Carter, Adam Kauger, Trent Thrift, Ryan Brewer, Justin Baxley and Preston Baxley.
Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Appling County Pavilion and Comfort Care Hospice.
Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Lumber City.
Nobles Funeral Home was in charge.
