Board of Education meets
At last week’s meeting of the Jeff Davis County Board of Education, High School Principal Dr. Greer Smith recognized Vincent Ly for serving on the 2025-2026 State Superintendent Advisory Council, being a National Merit Scholarship commended student, and being a Governor’s Honors finalist in the summer of 2025.
School Superintendent Dr. Chris Roppe presented the November attendance report, saying the average attendance was 91.75%.
Human Resources Director Dr. Natalie Hayes gave an update on department activities. The Human Resources Team team completed State Health Benefit Plan for open enrollment, American Fidelity open enrollment, Teacher Retirement System meetings and updates, and sessions for the New Teacher Academy.
Letters of Intent for FY27 have been distributed, Recognized School Counselors Association Model Program planning meetings for FY27 are underway, and the New Teacher Academy sessions will continue throughout the year.
Dr. Adam Kirby provided an update on capital projects, including the following:
■ Tennis Field House
Most of the subcontracted work is complete; Prepping to paint the red iron outside; Interior walls will begin going up soon; Project continues to be on schedule.
■ Auxiliary Gym (Repairs due to Hurricane Helene)
Bulk of the work should be completed by next week; Only the punch list items will be left.
■ New Primary School
Brick is beginning to go up; CMU work is almost done; Roof decking is almost complete; Grading on site is ongoing; Still on track for projected July completion.
Procedures, Operations, and Support
The following items were all unanimously approved by the board:
Adoption of Board Policy JCDAF: Use of Electronic Devices by Students. This item sat for 30 days and was open for public comment. No public comments were given; Proposed 2026-2027 School Calendar; AirMed Evac Insurance; 2026 Regular Board Meeting Schedule; Annual Approval of Board Attorneys – Cory Kirby and Lamar Elder; Two Facilities Use Requests from Empact Church
Financials.
Chief Financial Officer Joshua Worth presented the October financial reports. The board unanimously approved the reports as presented.
Consent Agenda
No action was taken by the board on personnel.
