Bremen eliminates JD softball

Jeff Davis High’s softball season came to an end last week as the Lady Jackets fell 5-0 and 9-6 to Bremen in the 2nd round of the 2025 State Softball Tournament.
The Lady Jackets ended their season with a 22-12 record while the Lady Blue Devils advance to the tournament finals in Columbus with a 26-5 record. Two teams from Region 1A, Division I — Bacon County and Thomasville — made it to the final eight in Columbus. Other classification teams playing are Dade County, Armuchee, Gordon Lee, Toombs County and Banks County.
In the opening game in Bremen, Lady Blue Devil pitcher Savannah Langley shut down the Lady Jacket bats and, with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th inning, she was one strike away from a no-hitter when JD’s Claire Stinson reached on an error and then Addison Giddens had 2 strikes on her before she spoiled the no-hitter with a line drive double to left field. The game ended on a ground out with Giddens and Stinson at 2nd and 3rd.
Langley retired the first 15 Lady Jacket batters before Savanna Robinette drew a leadoff walk in the 6th. She had put down 19 of 20 batters before Stinson’s reaching on an error in the 7th.
JD’s Carrie Ellen Arnold pitched well enough to win, giving up only one earned run as the Lady Jacket defense committed three errors. She gave up 6 hits, walked 2 and struck out 1.
The 2nd game was a different story as Jeff Davis jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning as Cori Mims singled and scored on an Ava Bohannon double.
Bremen turned things around in the top of the 3rd with a 4-run outburst, 2 runs coming on an Annabelle Langley homer.
The 4-1 score held until the 5th when Bremen scored three, including a 2-run home run by A.C. Arp.
In the bottom of the inning, Mattie Walsh reached 1st on a 1-out error, Madison Joyce doubled to right and Mims grounded out to score Walsh making it 4-2. After Bohannon was issued an intentional walk, Bohannon and Joyce advanced to 2nd and 3rd on a passed ball. Then Stinson ripped a line drive single to right to score Joyce and Bohannon to get the Lady Jackets within 3 runs at 7-4.
Bremen got an insurance run in the top of the 6th to go up 8-4. In the bottom half of the inning, Walsh got a 2-out walk on a 3-2 pitch, Joyce singled to left and Mims was safe on an error to load the baes. Bohannon then singled to left to score Joyce and Walsh to make it 8-6.
Bremen added another insurance run in the top of the 7th and, in the bottom of the final inning, Ryleigh Sellers singled with 2 down but Savanna Langley, pitching her 4th inning in relief, got the final out on a strikeout.
Bohannon had a single, a double and 3 RBI to lead the JD offense. Joyce had a pair of singles, Stinson singled and drove in 2 runs, Mims had a single and an RBI, and Sellers added a single.
Arnold pitched 7 innings, giving up 9 runs on 9 hits, walking 5 and striking out 3.
