Councilman Charged In Accident

Hazlehurst Ward 3 Councilman Christopher Michael Jones was arrested Aug. 23 by a Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Trooper and charged with failure to yield at intersection of roadways and being an intoxicated/impaired driver.
According to a GSP incident report, two GSP troopers responded at approximately 10:16 p.m. to an accident at the intersection of Tallahassee and Jefferson streets.
According to the report, Mr. Jones’ speech was extremely slow and slurred and his breath smelled strong of an alcoholic beverage. The trooper administered an eye movement test and observed clues in both eyes. A portable breath test was positive for alcohol.
According to the report, Mr. Jones agreed to a blood test and was placed in the GSP patrol car. The trooper wrote in his report that while Mr. Jones was in the patrol car he insisted he did not want to go to the hospital for a blood draw.
According to the report, when Mr. Jones was switched from the GSP car to a Hazlehurst Police Department vehicle he gave some resistance and was reluctant to get in. After verbally stalling, the report said, Mr. Jones was assisted into the vehicle by the two troopers and two other officers and was transported to the Jeff Davis Detention Center for booking.
