Lady Jackets sweep Lady Hurricanes

Jeff Davis High’s Lady Jacket softball team had few problems sweeping Fitzgerald last week in a 3-game region series, defeating the Lady Hurricanes 17-1, 10-0 and 11-3.
In the series opener in Fitzgerald, the Lady Jackets needed only 3 innings to run-rule the Lady Hurricanes.
JD had 13 hits, five for extra bases including Ava Bohannon’s 2-run homer over the center field fence in the 13-run 2nd inning. Bohannon also had a double and another RBI.
Mattie Walsh had 2 singles, a double and an RBI, Madison Joyce had a pair of singles and four RBI, Anna Grace Alligood had a single, a double and an RBI, Savanna Robinette had a 3-run double and drove in another run when she reached on an error, Alara McCall singled and drove in 2 runs, Claire Stinson had a single and an RBI, and Cori Mims singled.
Alligood was the winning pitcher. She gave up one run on 5 hits, walked none and struck out 6.
The Lady Jackets won 10-0 in 5 innings in Thursday’s 1st game in Hazlehurst.
Fitzgerald’s 1st batter of the game doubled but was gunned down at 3rd by catcher Bohannon on a sacrifice bunt attempt. Gabby Taylor struck out the next 2 batters to end the early threat.
Jeff Davis started quickly with a 4-run 1st inning highlighted by Robinette’s 2-run homer and singles by Mims and Stinson.
Bohannon also homered in the game in the 3-run 4th and Stinson followed that with a triple as the Lady Jackets cruised to the victory.
Stinson led the offense with a single, a triple and an RBI, Alligood had 2 singles and 2 RBI, Bohannon had a solo homer, Robinette had a 2-run homer, McCall singled and drove in a run, Mims singled and Madison Joyce added an RBI.
Taylor had a 6-hit shutout on the mound. She walked one and struck out 3.
In Thursday’s nightcap, it was senior Carrie Ellen Arnold’s turn on the mound and she gave the Lady Jackets their 3rd straight complete game.
After a scoreless 1st inning, JD put 6 runs on the board in the 2nd as Robinette and Walsh drove in runs with singles, Joyce plated a run with a sacrifice fly, and Stinson sent 2 runners across the plate as she reached on an error.
In the 3rd, the Lady Canes got 3 runs on 3 consecutive hits, their only hits of the game off Arnold. But the Lady Jackets got the 3 runs back in the bottom of the inning as Addison Giddens blasted a 2-run homer and Joyce drove in a run.
Stinson ended the game by the run rule in the 6th as she tripled in a run.
Robinette had a trio of singles and an RBI, Walsh singled and triple and drove in 2 runs, Giddens had a 2-run homer, Stinson tripled in a run, and Bohannon added a single.
Arnold gave up 3 runs on 3 hits, walked 3 and fanned 13.
