Jeff Davis High’s softball team swept a 3-game series with Berrien High School last week, winning 3-1 Tuesday in Hazlehurst and taking 8-4 and 14-0 wins Thursday in Nashville.
The wins improved the Lady Jackets’ record to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in region play.
In the Hazlehurst game, Jeff Davis scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to break a 1-1 tie and win 3-1.
Madison Joyce singled and Ava Bohannon doubled as the Lady Jackets scored a run in the 3rd. Berrien tied the score in the 4th.
In the 6th, Anna Grace Alligood was safe on a dropped fly to center, scoring 2 runs to put JD in front 3-1.
Bohannon had a single, a double and an RBI, Alligood doubled, and Joyce, Savanna Robinette and Carrie Ellen Arnold all singled.
Alligood earned a complete game victory, giving up one run on 2 hits, walking 4 and striking out 7.
In the 1st game in Nashville, JD opened an 8-1 lead before Berrien cut the score to 8-4 with a 3-run 6th.
Claire Stinson led off the 4th inning with a solo homer to put Jeff Davis in front 1-0. Berrien returned the favor with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
In the 5th, Bohannon hit a 3-run homer over the left field fence to put the Lady Jackets in front 4-1.
Jeff Davis added 4 runs in the 6th as Ryleigh Sellers and Cori Mims walked and Bohannon followed with a run-scoring single and Stinson drilled a 2-run double. Arnold drove in Stinson with a single to left to make it 8-1.
The Lady Rebels got 3 unearned runs in the 6th as the Lady Jackets committed a trio of errors.
Stinson had a double, a homer and 3 RBI, and Bohannon had a single, a homer and 4 RBI to pace the hitting. Arnold singled and drove in a run, and Cori Mims and Alligood each singled.
Arnold went the distance on the mound, giving up one earned run on 5 hits, walking 3 and fanning 6.
In the series finale, the Lady Jackets banged out 15 hits, 7 for extra bases.
In the opening inning, Bohannon got a 2-out single, Stinson drove in Bohannon with a double, and Alligood singled to score Stinson.
In the 2nd, Addison Giddens doubled and scored on a Joyce single to make it 3-0.
JD broke open the game with an 8-run 4th inning, sending 11 batters to the plate. Stinson had a 2-run double, Alligood drove in a run with a double, Alara McCall had a run-scoring single, and Giddens drilled a 3-run home run.
In the 5th, Stinson, Alligood and Sellers singled and Gabby Taylor drove in a run on a ground out to account for the final 3 runs.
Stinson had a single, 2 doubles and 3 RBI, and Alligood had 2 singles, a double and 3 RBI to pace the hitting. Giddens had a double, a homer the 3 RBI, Joyce had 2 singles and an RBI, McCall had a single and 2 RBI, Sellers singled and drove in a run, Bohannon singled twice, Robinette singled and Taylor had an RBI.
Taylor pitched all 5 innings. She blanked the Lady Rebels on 2 hits, walked 2 and struck out 4.
