Last week’s Jeff Davis-Thomasville softball series featured three run-rule games with the Lady Bulldogs taking the first two games 11-3 and 18-5 and the Lady Jackets winning Game 3 12-4. All three games lasted 5 innings.
In the opening game held in Thomasville, Jeff Davis jumped out to a 3-0 1st inning lead as Cori Mims reached on a 1-out single and Ava Bohannon followed with a 2-run shot over the left field fence. A walk to Claire Stinson, a single by Addison Giddens and Savanna Robinette’s RBI single made it 3-0.
But from there on, Mattie Walsh’s 2nd inning single was the only other Lady Jacket hits.
A bases-loaded triple ended the game in the bottom of the 5th.
Anna Grace Alligood took the loss. She went 4 2/3 innings, giving up 8 earned runs on 9 hits, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.
Thursday’s opening game was sloppy, with both teams committing 4 errors. The Lady Bulldogs’ bats were hot with 14 base hits, including 4 doubles.
Bohannon led Jeff Davis at the plate with a double, a homer and 2 RBI. Madison Joyce had a pair of singles, Alara McCall singled and drove in a run and Giddens singled.
Carrie Ellen Arnold suffered the loss, pitching 3 2/3 innings, giving up 7 earned runs on 10 hits, walking 3 and striking out 4. Gabby Taylor pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up 7 runs on 4 hits, 5 walks and no strikeouts.
It was the Lady Jackets’ time to shine in the 3rd game. Jeff Davis led only 6-4 entering the bottom of the 5th when they scored 6 runs to win by 8.
Alligood started on the mound and, after retiring the first three batters, an error and two singles loaded the bases. But she fanned the next batter to get out of the inning.
The Lady Jackets started the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd. Stinson led off with a walk, Giddens singled and, after a wild pitch advanced the runners, Robinette lofted a sacrifice fly to center. Arnold and McCall had back-to-back RBI singles to make it 3-0, Walsh singled and McCall scored on Madison Joyce’s fielder’s choice.
After Thomasville cut the lead to 4-1 in the 3rd, Robinette drove in a run with a single to make it 5-1.
Jeff Davis upped the score to 6-1 in the 4th on Cori Mims’ sacrifice fly.
After the Lady Bulldogs’ 3-run top of the 5th, Giddens led off the bottom half of the inning with a double. Robinette, Arnold and McCall followed with consecutive singles to load the bases with JD up 7-3. Walsh then got a run-scoring walk, Joyce and Mims got RBI singles, and Bohannon ended the game with a 2-run single.
Six Lady Jackets had 2 hits with one of Giddens’ 2 hits going for 2 bases, the only extra base hit of the game. Robinette had 2 singles and 3 RBI, Bohannon had 2 singles and 2 RBI, Arnold, McCall and Walsh each had 2 singles and an RBI, and Joyce and Mims both had a single and 2 RBI.
Alligood went all 5 innings, yielding 3 earned runs on 5 hits, walking 3 and fanning 6.
