Mrs. Jackie Elrod, 89

Mrs. Jackie Elrod, 89, longtime resident of Hazlehurst, passed away June 24 at her home in Atlanta.
Jackie was born Dec. 20, 1934, to the late Emory and Mabel DuBose Jones of Telfair County. She worked for the Bank of Hazlehurst for more than 25 years until her retirement in 2021. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst for many years and attended Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta since her move to Atlanta. Jackie will be remembered as a person of deep faith, remarkable work ethic and devotion to her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a hard-working and independent person who enjoyed gardening, cooking and volunteering for her church, the Red Cross and MUST Ministries.
She is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Dan B. Elrod; son Michael Green; sisters Gwen Weatherford, Lynda Walker and Sue Crafton; and brother Emory Jones Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Becky (Masoud) Pirouz of Atlanta; grandsons, Kian (Meg) Pirouz, Cameron (Kate) Pirouz of San Francisco; granddaughters Katie (Haynes) Green Chewning and Jacquelyn (Patrick) Green Bailor of Atlanta; great-granddaughter, Laila Pirouz; and great-grandsons, Liam Pirouz and Connor Pirouz of San Francisco.
Memorial services will be held later.
