Ms. Janet Bennett Johnson, 72

On May 17, Janet Bennett Johnson departed this earth for her heavenly home. Janet was born Aug. 19, 1951 to the late Charlie Spencer and Mattie Lou Bennett in Denton. She resided in Jacksonville, Fla., for many years.
She attended Hazlehurst Elementary and High School, and Jeff Davis High School.
She was a member of Big Bethel Church in Jeff Davis County. She held various jobs from manager of Popeyes and Church’s Chicken, to working in childcare until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brothers Walter Bennett and Deroy Bennett; and sisters Charlene Briggs, Mattie Travis, and Edna Thornton.
Survivors include children Orlando Deshay Bennett (son), Yolanda Shanee Williams (daughter); grandchildren Sheldon Stephon Bennett, Jai Shaquan Williams; great-grandchildren Shaniah Danielle Bennett, Kaylin Rochelle Thornhill, Sharrianna Bennett, Lyrhic Ja’nae Bennett; devoted sisters in Lumber City Ernestine Balkcom, in Hazlehurst Amy (Quincy) Kornegay, in Jacksonville, Fla., Olivia Gadson, Mary (Lorenzo) Fisher, Valoria Bennett; loyal brothers in Hazlehurst Charlie (Dale) Bennett, Jim Bennett, in Baxley Reuben Bennett Sr., in Douglas Ray (Patricia) Bennett; sister/cousin Doris Bennett Pitts; four generations of nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.
Mrs. Johnson was laid to rest May 25 at Bennett Tabernacle Holiness Church. Words of comfort were provided by Pastor Reuben Bennett with Pastor C.D. Johnson presiding.
