Rec teams win district tournaments

The Jeff Davis County Recreation Department’s All Star baseball and softball teams played well in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 2 tournaments last week.
The 8U, 10U and 14U boys teams all won the their District 2 tournaments while the 12U team made it to the finals played Tuesday (too late for publication).
For the girls, the 12U team finished runner-up in the District while the 8U and 10U were eliminated. (There were no 14U teams in District play).
The Jeff Davis 8 and under boys pitching machine All Star Team won the District 2 championship to earn a spot in the June 25-29 state tournament.
They opened with a 16-1 win over Alma/Bacon County, then defeated Pierce County 8-6, rolled over Long County 17-2 and downed Pierce County 5-4 in the championship game.
Jeff Davis had two teams entered in the 10 and under live pitch District tournament played in Baxley and the teams finished 1-2 in the event.
The Navy All Stars defeated Brantley County 8-1 in the opening round while the Gold Team fell 7-3 to Long County. In the second round, the Navy Team downed Long County 9-1 while, in the losers bracket, the Gold Team defeated Brantley County 12-6. The Gold Team made its way out of the losers bracket with a 13-12 defeat of Long County. In the championship game, Navy defeated Gold 15-0.
Last Friday in the opening round of the district tournament played in Ludowici, Jeff Davis County’s 12 and under All Star Team defeated McIntosh County in the first round 14-0, then defeated Appling County 8-0.
Saturday afternoon, the Jeff Davis team fell to Alma/Bacon County 9-7.
Tuesday, also in Ludowici, Jeff Davis’s 12U All Stars played Telfair County in the losers bracket of the district tournament.
The Jeff Davis 14 and under baseball All Stars won the District 2 tournament played last week in Long County, making their way through the losers bracket to defeat Long County in back-to-back games.
They lost their opening round game to Long County 4-2 to drop immediately into the losers brackets. There they defeated Telfair County 9-7, McIntosh County 11-1 and Clinch County 15-0 to set up a rematch with Long. They won 11-3 and 8-6 over Long to claim the championship.
The Jeff Davis 8U girls softball All Stars played last week in the District 2 tournament in Long County.
They opened play with a 15-3 win over Clinch County, then defeated Appling County 10-5.
In the third round, they fell 19-6 to host Long County to fall into the losers bracket, where they were eliminated from the tournament 26-17 by Brantley County.
Brantley and Long played Monday for the district championship.
The 10 and under girls softball All Stars played in Appling County. They fell 7-5 to Telfair County in the first round. In the losers bracket, they defeated McIntosh County 17-2 and Clinch County 10-1 before dropping out of the tournament with an 8-7 loss to Charlton County.
The 12U girls softball All Stars from Jeff Davis County played in the District 2 tournament in Brantley County. They opened play with a 5-4 win over Appling County, then fell 4-3 to Pierce County. In the losers bracket, they defeated Brantley County 4-3 to advance to the championship game Monday against Pierce County. Pierce defeated the JD girls 9-2 to claim the championship and Jeff Davis was runner-up.
