Jacket win streak goes to 13

Jeff Davis High’s baseball team extended its win streak to 13 games last week as they swept a 3-game series again Fitzgerald, 12-2, 15-0 and 13-0.
The Hurricanes managed only five hits in the three games as the Jacket pitching staff continued to shine. Carter Mullis threw a 4-hitter in the first game, Colby Beach threw a 1-hit shutout in the second game, and Alex Mason hurled a 5-inning no-hitter in the final game.
But the big story of the series was the Jacket batting as they banged out 47 hits in the three games, seven for extra bases topped by Mullis’ 3-run homer in the third contest.
In the opener, Jeff Davis led only 3-2 after two innings but a big, 6-run sixth gave them a run-rule victory.
Ten batters went to the plate in the Jacket sixth and JD needed only three hits to get the six runs. An error, an intentional walk, a hit batter and singles by Hayden Turner, Mullis and Jackson Sayer sparked the outburst.
The Jackets had 14 hits in the game, led by Mullis who was 4-for-4 with four singles and three RBI. Ethan Picanso had a pair of singles, a double and two RBI, Sayer had two singles and two RBI, Turner had two singles and one RBI, Jude Worthington singled twice, Duke Stone singled, and Kamo Munsayac and Eli Saunders both had an RBI.
Mullis pitched four innings, walking five and striking out five. After Mullis walked the first two batters in the fifth, Andrew White came to the mound, struck out the first batter he faced, got the second on a fielder’s choice and got the final out on a ground out. In the sixth, White struck out the side.
In the second game, JD had 14 hits, led by Mason at the designated hitter spot. He had a pair of singles, a double and three RBI. Hayden Turner doubled twice, Stone and Sayer both had two singles and two RBI, Mullis singled twice and drove in a run, Saunders had a single and two RBI, Picanso had a single and an RBI, Holden Ellis singled and Beach drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
Beach walked only one batter and fanned six in just three innings, striking out the side in the second.
Jeff Davis had 19 hits in the finale. Worthington was 3-for-4 with two singles and a double. Mullis, playing as the designated hitter, had a 2-run single and a 3-run homer, Picanso was 3-for-5 with three singles and two RBI, Mason had a pair of singles and two RBI, Turner had two singles and an RBI, Treyton Webster had a single and a double, Sayer had two singles and an RBI, Stone had a double and an RBI, and Trey Rea singled.
