Mr. Maxie ‘Mac’ Collins, 85

Mr. Maxie “Mac” Collins, 86, of Hazlehurst went to be with his Lord and Savior on Good Friday, March 29, at his residence.
Mr. Collins was born Feb. 8, 1938, in Appling County and has lived in Jeff Davis County since 1960. He graduated from Appling County High School in 1956 and retired from Hazlehurst Mills in 2000. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and attended the Agape Sunday School Class. Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Velma Hopkins Collins; brothers, Waylon, Robert, Harold, and Billy Collins; sisters, Pauline Lawrence and Glenda Shubert; parents-in-law, the Rev. Dewitt and Evelyn Griffin; and granddaughter-in-law, Zainab “Z” Sellers.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Elvie Jean Collins of Hazlehurst; daughters, Dale (Darrell) Sellers of Baxley and Dawn (Jim) Conner of Vidalia; grandsons, Derek Sellers and Blake Sellers; step-grandsons, James Conner and Aaron Conner; sisters, Frances (Cosmo) Glass of Lake Wales, Fla., and Kathryn “Jane” Flannigan of Hinesville; brothers, Wendell (Sue) Collins of Ft. Pierce, Fla.,, Kenneth (Pat) Collins of Statesboro, and Troy (Linda) Collins of Baxley; special brother and sister-in-law, Neb and Debra Griffin of Hazlehurst; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were held April 1 at Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Yawn and the Rev. Bryan Herrington officiating. Interment followed in Oak View Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Derek Sellers, Blake Sellers, Jim Lawrence, John Lawrence, Dean Collins and Tommy Lawrence.
Honorary pallbearers were all family and friends in attendance.
Music was rendered by Jeffery Spell.
Swain Funeral Home was in charge.
