Rev. Prentice Herndon, 88

Rev. Prentice Herndon, 88, of Denton passed away Dec. 11 at his residence.
Brother Herndon was born Nov. 30, 1935, in Jeff Davis County to the late Wesley Herndon and Ruby Rollins Herndon. Mr. Herndon was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a founding member and pastor of Hazlehurst Pentecostal Church. Mr. Herndon was a superintendent for Amoco Fabrics, owner/operator of P.H. Herndon trucking, and a full-time pastor and evangelist. Mr. Herndon was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mavis Ann Clance Herndon, and sister Eloise Lynn.
Survivors include children, Wendy (Rev. Thomas) Colter, and Tammy (Rev. Terry) Davis both of Denton; grandchildren, Freddie (Dedria) Colter of Patterson, Heather (Joseph) Davis of Denton; great-grandchildren, Harleigh Colter, Hannah Wooten (Ethan Warnock), Ryleigh Colter, Olivia, Isabella, and Joel Davis; sisters, Ollene Drawdy of Mt. Vernon, Virginia (Johnny) Herrington, and Eleanor (Roger) Lightsey both of Baxley
Services were held Dec. 13 at Hazlehurst Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Robert Goodbread, and the Rev. Joe Davis officiating.
Interment followed in Hazlehurst City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Freddie Colter, Donnie Nash Jr., Charles Ogletree, Andy Edge, Keith Lott, and Royce Dykes.
Swain Funeral Home was in charge.
