Mrs. Star Woodard Wheeler, 86

Mrs. Star Woodard Wheeler, 86, of St. Simons Island, departed this life Oct. 24 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. A private interment will take place at Christ Church Cemetery, and a Celebration of Life will be conducted at Glynn Academy Auditorium Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. and everyone is invited with a reception following the ceremony.
She was born Sept. 2, 1937, in Eastman to the late Ernest Hansel and Eva Ruth W. Woodard, she had been a resident of Glynn County since 1976, and was a retired educator at Glynn Academy after 37 years of dedicated service to her students. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of Christ Church Frederica, and enjoyed travel, reading, crossword puzzles and shopping. She took multiple students to Europe during the Summers and later traveled multiple trips to Africa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Daniel Norred Wheeler.
Survivors include sons, Keehln Wheeler and wife Maggie, and Woody Wheeler and wife Meredith all of Atlanta; granddaughters, Lydia and Maddie Wheeler; sister, Rebecca Herrin and husband Owen of Waycross; a brother, Ernie Woodard and wife Maureen of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Nieces, Shannon Borton (Chris), Christi Woodard, Jenny Wainright (Heath), Sarah Broyles (Harry), and Kimberly Bird (Quincy).
