Mr. Jesse Gene Newell Sr., 80

Mr. Jesse Gene Newell Sr., 80, of Hazlehurst, passed away Oct. 23 at his residence.
Mr. Newell was born Sept. 19, 1943, in Jeff Davis County to the late Joe W. Newell and the late Ruby Burkett Newell. He was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic with Tidewater and a member of Graham Church of God. Mr. Newell was a veteran of the United States Army and received the expert rifle badge. He was also a member of the American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Morris, grandson, Austin Morris, and brothers, Gailand Newell and Joe Newell Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Lynda Joyce Newell of Hazlehurst; daughters, Judy (Bloyce Coy Jr.) McDaniel of Hazlehurst and Carolyn Wills of Dublin; sons, David (Eve) Morris and Jesse (Sherry) Newell Jr. all of Hazlehurst; granddaughter, Cindy (James) White; 41 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Oct. 26 at Hazlehurst City Cemetery with the Rev. Don Dixon and Henry Newell officiating.
Swain Funeral Home was in charge.
