Lorene Powell, 84

Blessed with a long and joyful life, Lorene Powell, 84, of Uvalda passed away Sept. 26 at her home, with her nieces and lifelong friend, Shelby Donaldson by her side. She was a daughter of the late Luther B. and Eunice Johnson Powell of Uvalda.
She graduated from Montgomery County High School, Class of 1957 with the best group of classmates ever. She moved to Macon in 1981 to work in the medical office of Dr. Joseph Brogdon. She continued to work with Neurology Associates LLP until retiring on Aug. 21, 2023. She was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church and the Marshall Ministry (formerly singles) Sunday School Class. She was very active and filled many positions in the church and Sunday School. She had been a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Macon Chapter, since 1984. She loved to travel and enjoyed visiting and seeing history from all over the world, but she truly loved the USA and all things Southern.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Blass and Eunice Johnson Powell and her sister, Sandra Powell Chavis, all of Uvalda.
Affectionately known as “Aunt Rene,” she is survived by her brother-in-law, Richard Chavis of Uvalda; nieces, Tina C. Watson (Mike Yawn) of Hazlehurst and Angela C. Sellers (Ken) of Albany; great-nieces, Megan Walker (Donnie), Karlie Watson and Abbigail Sellers; great-nephews, JonMichael Watson, Trey Sellers and Peyton Sellers; great-great-niece, Bailey Walker; great-great-nephews, Samuel and Vayden Walker; and many treasured friends and family that brought love to her life.
Services were held Sept. 28 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Baxter Hurley officiating. Ms. Powell will be laid to rest beside her parents in Uvalda City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Yawn, Ken Sellers, Donnie Walker, JonMichael Watson, Trey Sellers and Peyton Sellers.
Honorary escorts were her coworkers, physicians and staff of Neurology Associates, Sorority Sisters, Sunday School Class and the Class of 1957.
