Lady Jackets Sweep Worht

Jeff Davis High’s softball team rolled to three shut-out Region 1-AA wins over Worth
County last week as sophomore pitcher Carrie Ellen Arnold threw a 1-hitter and a pair of 3-hitters to lead JD to a 14-3 overall record and a 6-2 region mark.
The Lady Jackets traveled to Sylvester last Tuesday and came away with an 11-0 win, then won both ends of a double-header Thursday in Hazlehurst, winning 14-0 in four innings and 12-0, also in four innings.
Thursday’s second game win gave Coach Steven Wilcox his 300th career softball coaching victory.
The Lady Jackets started quickly in Tuesday’s game, scoring four runs in the first inning highlighted by Arnold’s homer.
They added three more in the second primarily on Jaci Underwood’s 2-run triple.
After a scoreless third, JD added two more in the fourth on Jenna Miles’ 2-run double. Miles went to third on Underwood’s fly out to center and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-0. Claire Stinson walked in the inning, went to second on a wild pitch, took third on a dropped third strike and scored on Arnold’s ground out.
Bentlee Metts had a pair of singles, Miles doubled and drove in two runs, Underwood tripled and drove in two runs, Arnold had a homer and three RBI, Laisha Hernandez singled and Stinson drove in a run.
Arnold gave up one hit, walked two and struck out five.
In Thursday’s opening game, the Lady Jackets came out swinging, scoring seven runs on eight hits — five for extra bases — in the first inning alone. Miles led off the bottom of the first with a triple, Underwood, Arnold, Kalleigh Sellers and Kira Buford all doubled, and Stinson, Ella Wood and Underwood singled.
Jeff Davis added five singles in the second as they upped the score to 11-0.
In the third, Ava Bohannon smacked a 2-run homer and Underwood drove in a run with a sacrifice fly as the lead grew to 14-0.
Underwood led the Lady Jackets’ 15-hit attack with two singles, a double, a sacrifice fly and four RBI. Sellers had a single, a double and two RBI, Buford had a single, a double and one RBI, Stinson singled twice, Bohannon had a homer and two RBI, Miles tripled and drove in a run, Arnold had a double and an RBI, and Wood, Metts and Hernandez each singled and drove in a run.
Arnold gave up three hits, walked none, hit a batter and struck out four.
In Thursday’s nightcap, the Jackets started more slowly as they did not score until the third inning.
In the third, Alera Vann walked, went to third on a Metts double, and scored on Hernandez’ sacrifice fly to center. Miles and Underwood then hit back-to-back homers and the Lady Jackets had a 4-0 lead.
JD put the game away with an 8-run fourth inning to win by the run rule. Hernandez started the scoring with a bases-loaded single and a wild pitch brought in another run. A walk loaded the bases again and Vann scored on a passed ball. Underwood followed with a 2-run single to make it 9-0. Another passed ball made it 10-0 and Cori Mims followed with a 2-run single to end the game at 12-0.
Underwood again led the offense with a single, a homer and three RBI. Miles had a home run and two RBI, Hernandez had a single and two RBI, Metts doubled, Mims singled and drove in two runs, and Bohannon added a single.
