Baseball stats are impressive
Entering the quarterfinals of the 2023 State Baseball Playoffs, the Jeff Davis High pitching staff has given up only one earned run in the last six games.
That has lowered the pitching staff’s earned run overage to a gaudy 1.205 as opponents have had immense problems scoring runs against the Yellow Jackets.
Juniors Alex Mason and Duke Stone lead the team with ERAs of .509 and .528 respectively. Both righthanders have given up only four earned runs all season. Mason has pitched 55 innings and Stone 53. Mason has an 8-0 won-loss record with two saves and Stone is 5-1 with one save. Stone has 105 strikeouts and Mason 89.
Sophomore left-hander Andrew White is third on the list with an ERA of 1.663 in 33 2/3 innings on the mound, a 4-3 record and 55 strikeouts.
Sophomore Eli Saunders leads the team in saves with four.
At the plate, junior Carter Mullis has had a hot bat during the playoffs and has raised his batting average to a team-leading .380. He also leads the team in RBIs with 31.
Stone and Mason have also hit the ball well, as Mason has a .366 batting average and has driven in 24 runs and Stone is batting .278 with 25 RBI.
Other starters batting over .300 are sophomore Ethan Picanso (.337) senior Cason Clance (.333).
The team batting average is .293.
Mullis has 38 hits, Mason 37 and Picanso 33.
Mason had three homers, Stone two and Mullis one.
