Lefty Purser

Word spreads fast in a small community so I suspect lots of you are aware of the fact that, for the second time this year, I tangled with a table saw. The first time it was just the index finger on my right hand but after several months I still only have limited use of it.
The second time, four weeks ago, the saw got the remaining four digits on my right hand. Everything is still there with the exception of the fingernails on my middle and ring fingers — but, as for my pinkie, it’s just barely there. I still have a pair of pins criss-crossed in my pinkie which I hope will be removed this week — or perhaps the next. The doctor tells me the usual run is 4-6 weeks. We’ll see.
The doctor has given me the order to not drive so, for the last four weeks, the good wife has good-naturedly served as my chauffeur. For a couple or three weeks I could only type with one hand. This week I’ve been typing with my left hand and the middle finger of my left. It ain’t easy but it is certainly slow — which reminds me of the old football coach’s joking description of his team: “We’re small, but we’re slow.”
Nonetheless, I’ve been trying for the last month to give away my table saw. I’m done with it. Finished. Through. Over. Moving on. Putting it behind me…..Whatever.
A friend asked me, “How are you going to wipe your butt?”
No problem. Years ago I broke my right wrist and learned to be a left-handed wiper. I’m good at it. I was ready for this.

I have already given it away much to the glee of the good wife.
