Roundabout May Have Prevented Accident

The proposed roundabout at the intersection of Pat Dixon Road and Collins Street didn’t materialize soon enough for two drivers and their passengers last Thursday morning.
A vehicle driven by Juliana Sharee Day of Brunswick collided with a vehicle driven by Dewey Stanley McLeod of Hazlehurst at approximately 7:35 a.m. resulting in the 2003 Ford Explorer driven by McLeod to overturn. While the drivers of both vehicles were taken to Jeff Davis Hospital for injuries incurred in the accident, the occupants of both vehicles, a 15-year-old girl and a 10-year-old girl, did not require transport.
According to a report prepared by a trooper with the Georgia State Patrol, Day was traveling south on Collins Street toward Jeff Davis Middle School in a 2008 Dodge Caravan and McLeod was traveling east on Pat Dixon Road toward Jeff Davis Elementary School. Day failed to yield at the intersection, striking McLeod’s vehicle on the driver’s side. The Explorer overturned and struck a street sign coming to rest on the south shoulder of the roadway on its side.
