Veterans Fundraising campaign falls short
The Jeff Davis County Veterans Association’s major fundraising campaign for much-needed upgrades to Veterans Square Park fell short of its goal of $39,000.
As of April 9, more than 50 percent of the money had been raised for the beautification project, which includes replacing the asphalt with concrete and other aesthetically-pleasing additions at the 10-year-old park. The Veterans Association had hoped to have the upgrades completed by Memorial Day.
“Fundraising will continue, even though we didn’t reach our goals,” says Veterans Association President Roy Anderson. “We are still working toward the project being completed by Veterans Day on Nov. 11.”
The fundraising committee is spearheaded by Jack Floyd and consists of Anderson, Wilton Miles, Dale Bradley, Tracy Page, Berney and Diane Hand, David Miller, and Royce Presley, any of whom may be contacted for more information.
Anyone who wishes to donate to the beautification project may send checks to P.O. Box 263, Hazlehurst 31539, and made payable to the Jeff Davis County Veterans Association. Alternatively, call 912-375-5361 to make arrangements to have the donation personally picked up by a member of the Veterans Association.
The Veterans Association will accept donations of any amount, with sponsorship levels available of gold at $5,000, silver at $2,500, and bronze at $1,000. The Veterans Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and all donations are tax deductible.
